Earthquake insurance was mandatory in Turkey in 1999 after the devastating Marmara earthquake, and as a result, the "Insurance against Natural Disasters in Turkey", known as DASK, was formed.

It is the official Turkish authority responsible for compensating earthquake damage, and is subject to the supervision of the Ministry of Finance in Turkey
